Dog and Cat Art by Marna Schindler
With bold strokes of vibrant color, celebrate your special pet in an impressionistic work of contemporary art, by San Diego
artist Marna Schindler. Order a custom pet portrait today!
After earning a fine arts degree from San Diego State University, Marna worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for
over 15 years. Now a full-time painter, Marna finds inspiration daily from her own fabulous feline Hopper, as well as from
her travels across the colorful southwest. Combining her deep affection for animals and art, Marna “fell into” painting
pet portraits a few years ago, when a painting for a friend garnered an overwhelming response (“Happy Hank”, above).
Marna delights in capturing the spirit of her subjects using vivid color and a unique expressive style.  As of 2008,
Marna is honored to have already painted over 100 four-legged friends.  A percentage of the proceeds from Marna’s pet
portraits is donated yearly to non-profit organizations and shelters benefiting animals.  Marna currently lives and paints
out of her studio in downtown San Diego, California.

Anniversary Celebration
MAY 17th 2008, Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa
The 2nd annual gala to raise funds for the North County Humane
Society in Oceanside commemorated their 70th anniversary as a
shelter. I was thrilled to be asked to create the artwork to represent
this year's landmark event. The original 24x24" painting featured
animals up for adoption at the shelter in a whimsical Hollywood
theme. Since being painted, all models have found new homes!

Joelyn Brickner, the feature article not only highlighted
some very diverse approaches to pet portraits, but
talked insightfully about the rich and colorful history of
pet portraiture too!

Animal Acres Gala
September 12, 2009
Animal Acres has been evacuated temporarily because of the fires, and is in need of donations! If you've a soft
spot in your heart for farm animals, please consider sending them a donation at their
website. This wonderful
sanctuary just east of Los Angeles houses and cares for a multitude of rescued animals, including goats,
chickens, cows, ducks, and pigs. I was honored to create
"In The Moo" for the event, and it was auctioned off
during the Gala along with items from many other donors. The eve
was hosted by honorary chairperson Ellen
DeGeneres—all proceeds helping the multitude of animals rescued and thriving at the sanctuary.  Animal Acres
is open for visits from the public daily—check out the sanctuary for more information about their mission and
their growing menagerie of animals!

races to guess-the-weight-of-the-biggest-cats! Providing shelter for over 350 cats, and lifetime care for cats
left with the shelter by their owners who have passed on,
Friends of Cats is a wonderful, caring place in need
of loving parents for their many great adoptable kitties.  If you're in the San Diego area, don't miss visiting
this unique and impressive sanctuary...and please consider contributing to their commendable efforts!
